We don't get a chance to log on to the internet everyday, so there may be gaps in our updates. In fact, we're already well into our 2nd week and we've only just started....poor show, huh?
This will be just a quick note, to try out the blog more than anything, Jane is the real author and she'll get stuck into it soon, I hope. She's out shopping at the moment, naturally, with a friend, Claudia, while I try to set this up. I'm a bloke and blokes can do technical stuff.... apparently.
They are shopping to buy food to make a picnic for about a thousand kids who we are taking to the zoo tomorrow, some for the very first time. Oh what a responsibility. I just hope the hippo's and croc's are entertaining.
So, some boring detail.
Jane and John (that's me, of course) came out to Brazil on 25th January 2010 to revisit friends we made during our visit in 2008. Then we helped build houses for slum families with Mission direct ( a Christian Organisation) and during the 3 months we were here we built up relationships with the families we helped rehouse and helped introduce them to bible home groups. This time we have come to help encourage the families with their home groups and set up a programme to teach the kids English (there are many kids) and moral responsibilities amongst other things.
We are working with our friends Andre' and Claudia, Samuel and Ceda who run a project called 'Open hands' which is the building and rehousing project.
If you want to check out 'You tube' for a short video of photo's from our last visit, it can be found under 'Brazil mission 2008 John and Jane'.
We have been hugely busy since we've been here and already had some great times.
We hope to share some of them with you soon.
Watch this space!!!
Great to hear from you two at last! And great to hear that you've been put straight to work. I can't imagine trying to cater for a picnic for 1000 children, never mind getting them to (and home in one piece!) a zoo!!! Sounds like you're doing what you dreamed of and we are praying on that there will be much fruit from your efforts. God bless you both, sending much love from Susie & Hop-a-long (who's doing amazingly well on his crutches, praise God and thank you for YOUR prayers!) xxx
